Eyeless MaxJune 12, 2011Don't listen to the nay-Sayers, given the turnover here, Canteen is one of the best (if pricey) alternatives to the usual Indian and pub fare of king street. Try the wonderful gnocchi.
The food is really good here, even the pre-made stuff at the take-out counter. But service can be a bit slow even when it's not busy.
Tip for Canteen manager: make an effort to serve more locally sourced food. You have a basket of apples from S. Africa!? It's apple season in Ontario and you have a farmers market across the street.

The vegetable curry is lovely--roasted vegetables, chickpeas, coconut rice & naan beautifully presented in a tagine. Not too spicy.

If you're for breakfast then you must try the breakfast butty. They also have local fruit juices, and a cocoa laced pain au choc.

At breakfast for 1.5 hours and had to ask for our food after an hour, a refill on coffee and water and had to ask another server for the bill so we could eventually leave!
