The highlight of the piazza is Loggia dei Lanzi: used in 1382 to hold public ceremonies. Today, it's like an open air art museum with many interesting statues.
Check out the Dome, Cathedral, Giotto's Bell tower and the Baptistery of St John...we're so lucky to be right next door.
There's one room in this museum that just takes your breath away: Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" & "Spring." I'd spend 50% of my time in this room :)
