Kim's San Francisco Spots

Kim Owens: Bloody mary's, hangover breakfast and fresh air on the patio. The best place to be on a Saturday morning when you're in recovery mode from Friday night.

Kim Owens: I always make a stop here, in the heart of tourist hell, to have an Irish Coffee, remembering my dad's story of his first date when he moved to SF in the 50's.

Kim Owens: I'm a huge fan of mole sauce, when it's done right. These guys do it right. And the servers are pretty saucy as well.

Kim Owens: My fav dive bar in the Mission, where me and Jef had many a drink whilst watching the SF Giants. <3

Kim Owens: I tend to leave my laptop and just enjoy this space's history and the coffee. A great place for an afternoon perk and a good book.

AskMen: Vesuvio is just dripping with history, and local characters can often be found holding court at the bar. Read more.

JD Beebe: Go to Columbus Cafe for Happy Hour and get a drink token, good to redeem at any hour...as long as hour is happy.

Torrey Nommesen: Order Boodles Negroni in honor of Airtime Richie.

Gadling: Head to the third floor and look for the "poet's chair."

Kim Owens: Anywhere you walk, you'll see street art. Just keep your eyes open and aware. Oh, and there's tons of fab places to eat and drink.

Bon Appetit Magazine: The cumin lamb belly? Fiery and addictive. Warm egg custard with duck confit and sea urchin? Brilliant. Hot-and-sour pork dumplings made to order? Further proof that MCF is no accident.

Kim Owens: I love that this place is still around. What's better then a rooftop dinner in the city with a classic film on the big screen?

Epicurious: The Mission District is full of Mexican joints, but La Taqueria's devotion to quality meats and dynamic salsas have earned it its spot in the San Fran culinary hall of fame.

Cheapism: Monday to Thursday this well-known restaurant offers a Blue Plate Special of two nightly entrees, one vegetarian, priced between $10 and $12. While waiting for a table, try a mojito at the bar. Read more.

Don Otvos: Absolutely save room for the Ginger Cake with Pumpkin Ice Cream. This is the best dessert in San Francisco.

Eater: It's an updated take on the Zuni formula, with the success to show. Both neighborhood standby and destination restaurant, Nopa continues to grow admirably under Chef Jossel. [Eater 38 Member] Read more.

Winston: If you're waiting to eat brunch at Zazie, you can write on the waitlist that you're at Finnegan's, and the host will come and get you. Love it!

Thrillist: An authentic outdoor German beer garden, serving 6 Germanic beers on tap by the liter and half-liter. Food'll include two bigger-than-at-Suppenkuche pretzel offerings. Read more.

Kim Owens: I've seen too many bands here to count, but the stand out shows, all in the 90s, were Catherine Wheel, Soupdragons and Garbage.

SFGate: Now there's a reason to love Mondays: $1 Pabst and $2 well drinks, all day long. Read more.

Kim Owens: A great dance spot that's been around for almost 20 years. Again, so happy to see it's still rockin'.

AskMen: The bartenders are friendlier & the crowd is a lot more local. Plus, the décor is AK-47-heavy but fun. Sunday nights, where the live jazz is free, is a mellow way to wind down. Read more.

TJ Love: Go to Friday happy hour for the best margaritas in town. Make sure nuri makes em.

Bravo: Divy San Francisco bar. You can hang your bike inside. Two pool tables and a great beer and cocktail list. Weird fish in the evening. -Laurine Wickett, Top Chef

Kim Owens: Used to be a more dive-ish place, but the new owners have done magic with the bar's interior. Drinks are mighty tasty too.

Travel Channel: With over 50 microbrews on tap and 100 bottled beers, this is a great stop for an afternoon drink. As seen on Travel Channel’s The Layover with Anthony Bourdain.

Kim Owens: My go-to place to check out punk rock, drink hearty beers and check out dirty boys.

Kim Owens: Another great area for shooting street art in between bar hopping.

ZAGAT: Check out the $1 oyster happy hour from 5:30–6:30 PM daily.

lola soto: burrata...on everything you can get your paws on. citrus & scallops skewers. salty dogs.

Kim Owens: I'm not a big meat eater, but this historic establishment is not to be missed. The pepper steak, creamed spinach and au graten potatoes with a cocktail. My last SF meal before I moved to Denver.

Kim Owens: A gorgeous park to walk in if you're in the need to clear your head or just want a bit of a nature fix that's right within the city limits. Miss this place so much.
