Great for kids. Good selection of tubs. Sauna is only for World Class members unfortunately, but the steambath outside will do.
The best sourdough in Iceland. Coocoo’s nest (a brunch spot) and Brauð & co are close seconds.
Classic Danish lunch open sandwiches. Super busy over christmas. Lunch special is usually meat and gravy or pork belly.
Local favorite. Walk-ins after 18:30 so no need to book a table, but expect to wait at the bar. French brasserie style food with an old school nordic twist.

Busiest weekend brunch in Reykjavík, but a good sign of quality. Get in early or a book a table for taco tuesday dinner. Arguably the best sourdough in Reykjavík, second to Sandholt.
Hard-to-find craft beer bar. Lots of things to love; whimsical interior design, huge and rotating selection of beer and beautiful glassware.
Best place for pre-dinner drinks. Doubles as an art gallery with sketches and paintings from Kjarval.
Part of a local burger franchise. They vary ever so slightly, and this one comes on top in terms of consistency and service. The only one owned by founder Tommi.
Poor to average quality lunch/diner, but makes a caterpillar-butterfly transformation during friday and saturday late nights when it turns into a world class hip hop dive bar.
By-now-legendary indian fine dining. Book a table and don’t miss the salmon starter. The same people run a lunch version at various Hraðlestin locations.
You say "local cuisine", I say stay away. Except for this place. Modern takes on old school Icelandic favorites.
Tómas is the grumpy front of house, while wife Dúna grunts out 300+ thai dishes all night. This is the soup nazi of Iceland. I swore to never come back after the bad service, and here I am. Again.
Slowly falling out of favor along with the retro-beatenup-interior-chic. Kitchen makes value-for-money dishes without the value part. Still deserves as recommendation for the atmosphere.
The best, and only, street food in Reykjavík. Get the no-compromises "one with all" hot dog and a coke.
Always wanted to eat veggie lasagna next to a member of the Icelandic parliament? Good brownies and sourdough.
Great fine dining or just cocktails at the bar. The restaurant is of a very high standard, much higher than what you would normally expect for this branding and interior. A weird mismatch.
