- L. S.March 12, 2016This place is a gem for those who don't know the LIC area well...an oasis of carnivorous delights. The ribs are a must have & the pork is the perfect not overly fatty but just fatty enough & $2 beer!
- David SalvétJune 2, 2017Best BBQ ribs I had in my live. Go for pork ribs and fries, I did not like mac-and-cheese and coleslaw that much. Definitely go to this restaurant if you LOVE BBQ.
- Village VoiceNovember 26, 2012Don't miss the lamb sausage, pulled pork or chicken. But the best part on the menu are the burnt brisket edges. Traditional sides are way above average. Best of NYC Critics' choice winner of best BBQ!
- Erik CintronSeptember 8, 2015Good BBQ considering queens has none. This is a good attempt. . With outdoor seating with graffiti walls. A great selection of craft beer. Good prices, food was good burnt ends juicy. Def has promise
- Michael PilchFebruary 9, 2017Be prepared to wait during peak times, but the food is excellent! The brisket, pastrami and burnt ends top my list but you really can't go wrong. Try the cornbread too! Nice beer selection in the back
- Norman TobiasJanuary 31, 2016The burnt ends were out of this world beautifully cooked chunks of meat with a crust that's unbelievable also loved the brisket nice thick cuts of brisket sweet juicy
- Rodrigo SalazarFebruary 8, 2015the phillipe deluxe sandwich, mac and cheese, and fries(not a fan of the chicken). extensive beer selection (try pineapple cider). con ed and construction workers keep the hipster levels at a 5.try it
- Recommend splitting platters for your group - get the burnt ends, rib tips, pulled pork but skip the pastrami and brisket. Sides are solid too (I enjoy the vinegar based slaw). Great bar in the back!
- HelenDecember 16, 2014Hidden gem in LIC. Like the majority of reviews, burnt ends are the best. Get the cornbread on the side. So moist and has bits of real corn. Beans and mac are just okay. Plenty of seating as well.
- Christina ChinJune 23, 2015Love pulled pork and cornbread. Coleslaw was great but it's not your typical coleslaw, more vinegary and a little kick. Love it but not for everyone
- TK 🍦🍷December 13, 2012I think the rib tip sandwich is delicious! The collard greens are spicy and stuffed w/bits of meat too. Certain nights there is *loud* and live country music, talking becomes near-impossible.
- Raymond RodriguezMay 14, 2014Just eat the whole menu. Seriously. Usually get the 2 meat platter (chicken and pulled pork) and baked beans and collard green. So good. Ribs are dried rub and amazing. And the corn bread = AMAZE.
- Burnt ends are amazing! Great beer choice and they have by far the best BBQ sauce i have ever tasted.. and I grew up on BBQ. Pork ribs are a little tough and the brisket needs a little more flavor.
- Burnt ends are amazing, potentially life altering. Pastrami, corn bread and cole slaw are other highlights. Solid beer selection and fun outdoor beer garden. All around my favorite BBQ in NYC.
- Judie O'GaraJuly 12, 2019We had brisket, rib ends and chicken, all very good, but the beans were amazing! Second visit can’t wait to go back. Will go today to retrieve my jacket and get mir beans!
- Alex PyatetskyAugust 18, 20182nd trip. Burnt End and pork belly are musts. Rib tips good. Wings v tasty. Meat good enough to not sauce. I’d skip pastrami. Gotta try ribs and fois next time.
- Finally someone in NYC with burnt ends and collard greens worthy of eating. John Brown Smokehouse makes this native southerner so happy.
- Ailie ChangAugust 22, 2015The Burnt Ends just melt in your mouth! I wasn't too big of a fan of the rib tips or mac and cheese. The Cornbread was really good - it's a different texture, but it's yummy!
- Alex PyatetskySeptember 25, 2017Burnt ends take the cake. Would order them in place of regular brisket next time. Slaw is good, cut very fine and vinegary, no mayo. Wings were pretty good. Would try rib tips and fois next time.
- Alexandra FanningDecember 10, 2017Brisket and Pastrami are delish 😘 it's a little loud with football etc but it's a casual spot and pretty cheap as far as good BBQ goes 🍗
- Mike WinstonSeptember 12, 2013It's all about the Burnt Ends. There’s a thick, crispy, spice-loaded, caramelized crust surrounding the most tender, fatty, melty bits of beef brisket in every bite. Read more
- Serious EatsJune 27, 2013There's better brisket in this city, but the restaurant's specialty—Kansas City burnt ends—are great. Just get there early before they sell out. Good beer selection, too.
- Tony XerriJuly 1, 2019Pastrami. I cant stress this enough. Just get it. Pulled pork is fantastic as well, but pass on the pecan wings. Skin isnt crispy but rather rubbery which is a bummer.
- North Carolina style BBQ. Great burnt ends and the spicy sauce has ghost peppers, you are warned! Excellent beer selection and a usually there is live blues in the weekends.
- Anthony PerroneFebruary 27, 2016I had their burnt ends, and their every day specials. The food and service is good. I keep going back for more. I'm glad they are in my neighborhood. Can't wait till they open the back yard. .
- Mike PrevetteJuly 11, 2013Burnt ends are in point! Cornbread was a buttery basket of awesome! Pulling in a distant third was the mac-n-cheese, no flavor. The ghost pepper sauce deserves mention, it was pretty well balanced.
- Danyel SmithDecember 21, 2014pulled pork is the winner. pork ribs are huge 'n' tender. collard greens, yummy. cornbread is sweet, moist, corn-y, delish. buss staff is awesome—tip them.
- Brittany GoodwynAugust 16, 2014The hand cut fries are by far the best I've had. The mac and cheese was also delicious. And please do try the pork ribs.
- Indulgent EatsJune 13, 2016The burnt ends is the BBQ you want at this LIC spot. Pair it with mac and cheese, corn bread, and some beers in their graffiti-lined backyard seating area.
- Get the corn bread, get the corn bread. Did I say get the corn bread?
- Cali ZimmermanOctober 6, 2014You haven't lived until you've had the burnt ends here.. The weakest of the meats was the pastrami. The baked beans also have MEAT IN THEM. Get them. The fries were also just ordinary
- Burnt ends, pastrami, fries, corn bread. All delicious. Can't make a bad decision, and a great back patio and beer selection.
- The craft beers are great (ask to taste each) but wait a minute before ordering your 2nd. The high alcohol content sneaks up on you.
- Get the burnt ends. It's like meat candy. KC style BBQ at its best.
- Erik SchomburgDecember 29, 2018Regardless of the meat you order, also get the cornbread (more like corn pudding).
- Rob KrumJuly 4, 2018EVERYTHING!! Pork belly and burnt ends. Seriously everything I put in my mouth was incredible!
- Max PerryNovember 6, 2017Great bbq! Get the $15.50 platter with meat, ribs and one side. Add $2 to substitute with burnt ends.
- Amy ChinApril 8, 2013All the meats were great, but the pastrami, pork belly and burnt ends were superb. No sauce needed, but dip into some of their hot bbq sauce for good measure - adds a sweet kick!
- Burnt ends, collard greens, Mac and cheese are delicious. Love the back patio space and the selection of beer. Can be very loud at times though.
- Isaac RadnitzerOctober 24, 2015Brisket and rip tips are both excellent, large portions for NYC and the corn bread side is on point. Great place to watch Kansas City sports
- Village VoiceFebruary 7, 2014Village Voice is proud to welcome John Brown Smokehouse to the 2014 Choice Eats food fest!
http://bit.ly/1cRzdNV. Best item on the menu is the burnt brisket edges. - There's nothing on the menu that I wouldn't recommend, but the burnt ends are a must and the brisket needs no barbecue sauce it's that moist.
- Village VoiceAugust 15, 2014If the pitmaster has smoked lamb sausage that day, grab some! Unexpectedly, the French fries are wonderful, and so are the meat-intensive collards. Read more
- Belkys GNovember 24, 2017The brisket was awesome, rest of the meat was relatively monotone (couldn’t differentiate the different meats by taste). But the sides !! Were excellent !
- Ed PodojilMay 10, 2016I don't always recommend cornbread, but when I do, it's John Brown Smokehouse cornbread.
- Don't dick around here. This place is too good. Get the burn ends (if they still have any left that day) and a pint of the Devil's Dancer IPA (12% ABV). You will not find better BBQ in NYC.
