Liked it, despite heavy reconstructions and Constantine's sarcophagus being closed. Museum of the Ancient Orient was the best start with excellent audio commentary, so do get the audio guide
There is a very good collection of ancient times in here. The "sarcophagus" part is stunning. However there is some sort of restoration in progress, so a few parts of the museum are closed to public.
The tile exhibit is beautiful and suprisingly interesting. It goes in depth on the techniques and areas. But the best was the graves exhibit. The entrance is sort of hidden past the construction
The museum is under construction but still awesome. Have a cup of coffee at the café in the garden. The waiters are very respectful and the one with the glasses is very cute! 🙊😋
My fav Museum around Europe. You should see ancient Babil ruins and of course founder of museum Osman Hamdi's life, paints... After visit, take a coffee break at garden w/ cats and singing birds
A must see museums located just behind the Hagia Sophia, within the perimeter of Yenikapı Palace, Istanbul. Having masterpieces (+3000BC) brought from various points of Middle East, Anatolia, & Levent
First peace treaty and first love poem are among the very rare pieces being exposed in Istanbul archeologymuseum. Building is currently under full renovation. Only part of the collection is visible.
This archeological museum will baffle you with information and sculptures from different eras in history and will make you wonder. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
Well for me the Archeology Museums have always been one of the first places I visit wherever possible. As they reflect the cultural, historical depth of that country and the civilizations it produced.
Very interesting! Unfortunately it’s no way to go there except tramway or by walk ( through Aya Sofiya or Gülhane park). But it worth it! For all ages!
The best museum in Istanbul. I went there 3 times. Its really big. The most interesting part is the mitologic one and the graves. The grave of Alexander, the biggest one is inside .

Well worth the 20TL especially after wasting time and money at Topkapi Palace. There are several interesting buildings with a large collection of archaeological items.
Quiet and peaceful complex of 3 museums.A bit confusing organization of the artifacts at some points, some missing information and some misspellings. If you are a museum dork, like myself,it's a must see
If you have some more time after your tour in the historical peninsula, continue with this one to see archaeological and artistic treasures from the Topkapı Palace's collections.
Istanbul ArchaeologicalMuseum is located in the first court of Topkapi Palace. Osman Hamdi Bey who was a famous Turkish archaeologist, diplomat and painter opened the museum.
You can get the Museum pass here as there are fewer queues and then get access to Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia with less queuing (security checks are still mandatory)
Consisting of 3 museums (Archaeological, Ancient Orient, and Islamic Art), this place is where you'll learn and see exhibitions of both local and international arifacts on early civilizatio
Vast museum; great potential but construction works tend ruin your visit; highlights are the treaty of Kadesh, Karaman mihrab and Alexander sarcophagus (currently unavailable); museumcafe is terrible
The compound also accommodates another museum inside which the original Hittite copy of the Treaty of Kadesh. Ungortunately, the main hall was being renovated during our visit.
Purchase Museum Pass Istanbul, on sale at many of the city's hotels. The card allows you to save time and money by offering admission to six must-see museums without having to queue up.
This significant complex is home to 3 centers: the Archeology Museum, the Tiled Kiosk of Sultan Ahmet and the Museum of the Ancient Orient. They provide a rich collection of a long period of time.
You would need at least 3 days to cover all halls. But even if you stay for only one hour do not miss the gold gilded room within the Çinili Köşk that was built more than 500 years ago.
Additional advantages of the Museum Pass Istanbul include discounts at elite private museums, more than twenty arts and entertainment venues, museum shops and GES Shops.
If you enjoyed tracing the remains of history in Istanbul Arkeoloji Müzesi, we strongly recommend you to see Chora Museum. Here is the official application. http://bit.ly/P3nsXi
Not that impressive. One of the buildings was closed, and the open ones had little A/C. We had also already visited the Anatolian civilization museum in Ankara, as well as Troia. Lot of rehashing.
Guards literally kick you out any time after lunch (like at 15:40 today). Personal not speaks English, and can't tell what is open and till when. And most part is closed. Better visit Athens or Paris.
