- Food NetworkAugust 8, 2011On Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Claire Robinson picks up her chopsticks for the carefully crafted Akamaru Modern Ramen at Ippudo, a Japanese ramen experience. Find more tips at FN Local. Read more
- emeFebruary 4, 2015Pretentious but tasty. What can I say? There's usually a wait so better have a place to go for a drink/app nearby. Also, wasabi octopus is killer.
- Nick JohnsonMarch 23, 2015The chicken buns are also pretty great and a little bit different. Try the yuzu soda, it's a little like mountain dew but tastes like fruit rather than chemicals.
- Melissa KaitaOctober 18, 2013Delicious ramen, but I was disappointed that Ippudo doesn't have the perfect tiny little gyoza like they do in Japan. No free tea and pickles like in Japan, either.
- Ray LinJanuary 11, 2013The best ramen in the city, period. Pro tip: They don't take phone reservations, but if you happen to work nearby, you can make one same-day in person.
- Charly POctober 19, 2016Super service... Staff pleasant. Food is exceptional. I ate the best ramen ever.
- Jenko KentJuly 8, 2016Everything is delicious, but there aren't as many vegetable only options as some other places. If you like pork, it's amazing!
- Oh man oh man oh man. Definitely munch on the shisito peppers whilst waiting for your ramen. All the ramens are insane, and you can't go wrong adding the pickled egg situation to any of them.
- COOLHAUSJuly 15, 2012The chosen hiding spot of COOLHAUS staff during the winter. There's always a line, however after one sip of that tasty ramen soup, you'll know it was well worth the wait.
- Evan StaffMarch 3, 2016Go here so I don't have to wait any longer for a bowl at any of NYC's smaller, better ramen shops.
- Karolina 🦖November 1, 2016Easily living up to the hype. When you take ramen, pick Shigureni topping - wonderful sweet and juicy pork.
- cam howittNovember 6, 2014Good pork buns, nice bar to wait at before table ready. Buzzing place. Young and mixed crowd. Best ramen I've had in ages.
- Alice NamMarch 21, 2015Pork buns are always good. But as for ramen, I won't be getting them without additional toppings next time
- Tiffany LangstonFebruary 20, 2015Probably my favorite ramen in town. The wait is stupid, though. I dine at 5 pm on Sunday when I want to avoid the crowds
- Jack GashiOctober 15, 2014Legit, worth the hype. Go drop your name when it's raining on a Saturday and stay for an hour and a half and just down pork buns till you hate yourself
- You cannot go wrong. Everyone will point you to the Akumaru Modern, but karaka-men or if available the wasabi-tonkatsu specials are incredible. Eat!
- Simon LeungSeptember 1, 2015Best ramen in Manhattan. The cha siu is below average and it's pricey with a long wait but still a great bowl nonetheless.
- JennNovember 24, 2011Very hip, modern, Japanese atmosphere, great music and delicious Ramen noodles! Don't come here on a weekend during prime lunch/dinner hours unless you want to wait 3.5 hours for a table.
- RCMarch 3, 2015Their classic broth is amazing. The noodles aren't my favorite in Manhattan though. Very loud with communal tables. Worth a try.
- Look, it's good ramen, but if you're not looking for a special night out, I recommend Menkui Tei down the road.
- Stephanie GJanuary 8, 2013Got there on a Tuesday at 10:50am and the line was already a dozen deep! Not that I can blame anyone....it's well worth the wait!
- JamieSeptember 4, 2014Closest to ramen in Japan that I have found in New York. Head to Angels Share for Japanese themed cocktails while you wait!
- Vanessa MahapatraMay 8, 2013Love the octopus appetizer, pork buns are a must try!! Get the akamaru modern with pork belly and boiled egg.. absolutely delicious!
- Stephen PerleDecember 25, 2016Had the veggie buns and wings. Bun was outstanding, wings were just good. Had the pulled pork also outstanding.
- Brian StraussOctober 18, 2017Freaky good. Crazy rich unctuous broth. Thin noodles with bite. Service is a little hurried.
- Victoria NatenzonJune 3, 2014The pork buns are to die for an the ramen is 🙌. Go REALLY early if you want to avoid a 2+ hour wait
- Sam HApril 14, 2015Just like everyone else, get the akamaru ramen and start off with the yummy pork buns
- Olof CarlsonAugust 10, 2014Great pork buns. Best ramen I've ever had. Quite crowded so be prepared to wait for a little while in the bar.
- Chris RaghoobarFebruary 25, 2015Warm atmosphere, very friendly staff, and the food was great. Definitely recommend the Akamaru Modern (like many people would)
- Grace YoonJuly 6, 2017My personal fav: karaka-men with poached egg. Perfectly spicy, tangy, and meaty.
- Daniel HoeffelSeptember 20, 2016This place is absolutely phenomenal, highly recommend the spicy peppers and the Karaka-men
- Sarah F. ParsonsMarch 18, 2014Even on a cold Tue at 2pm there is a long line. But it moves quickly! Especially for 2 or 1 people..miso Ramen! And pork buns!
- Matt LDecember 9, 2018Pork buns tasted great. Chicken wings were crunchy and sweet. Tan Tan ramen was silly and HOT
- Robert AmezquitaSeptember 27, 2015Pork buns and that ramen. Make sure to get soft boiled egg plus rice with yours to finish it all off!
- Ajit VergheseJanuary 13, 2012RS says: Try the Shiromaru Hakata Classic: "pork bone broth highly emulsified, noodles slightly firmer than most and thinner, and pickled ginger is an important component of the flavor package."
- Elle AlvaAugust 24, 2014One of the best restaurants I have ever been to! Hands down everything is Delish!
- Agedashi Tofu is one of the best in NYC. The cucumber is simple and delicious and available at the bar.
- Mara LecocqNovember 30, 2014Their signature ramen (akamaru) was pretty good but definitely not the best I've had in New York. Only saying this because the wait is incredibly long so I wouldn't go back because of that.
- George LeeMay 24, 2015Got the modern ramen. Delicious broth. Perhaps a bit overhyped but very tasty.
- The pork buns are always great. Rotating menu ensures good diversity. Akamaru Modern ramen is a safe go-to.
- Ava LuOctober 10, 2011a good least 30 mins wait time, noodles = so so, soup base = very flavorful ( I got the wasabi ramen. its okay) wasabi octopus and pork buns = A MUST. SERIOULY. $2 hot paste a must if you like spicy,
- Eric LeebowDecember 17, 2018Excellent ramen, possibly the best in the city. Ask for a recommendation and enjoy!
- Sean BesserMay 29, 2013Excellent hip/upscale ramen place. Pork buns and the akamaru modern ramen were both fantastic, though needed extra sriracha.
- D. E. MerrittSeptember 13, 2015Definitely worth the wait. Hirata Pork and Chicken buns are a must try. Akamaru Modern with added pork!
