HISTORY: The zoo was not part of the original design for Central Park but spontaneously evolved in 1859 from gifts of exotic pets and other animals informally given to the Park.
Mary Shields: Second Avenue has become the East Village's Restaurant Row. Take a stroll down it, choose from a wide variety of cuisines: Italian, Mediterranean, Asian, Indian, Mexican, American.
The Corcoran Group: Not the most fancy aquarium, but it’s really enjoyable. Make sure you catch the sea lion show and encounter the sharks and penguins.
