- Untapped CitiesAugust 18, 2017Heidelberg Restaurant is one of the oldest and most authentic German restaurants in the country. You can choose from a vast collection of authentic German eats: from Bratwurst to Wiener Schnitzel. Read more
- Andrew CJanuary 3, 2020Been wanting to visit forever and OMG, everything was well worth it... 3 of us shared some sausages, a pretzel and schnitzel, plus various apps + the German beer was all so tasty and delicious!!!
- Michelle SApril 15, 2013Split the Jaeger Schnitzel entree with a friend and it was rich but delicious. Spaetzle was crisp and buttery and the red cabbage was perfectly tart and sweet. Order it with beer and you can't lose.
- Leszek DowgierSeptember 20, 2018If you’re in the mood for German food, you can’t go wrong with this gem in Yorkville. The spatzle and sausage platter are fantastic. The only negative is that it’s a tad pricey.
- Keith PetersenSeptember 15, 2014Sausage platter, sauerbraten, Weinert schnitzel, it's all good. Get the potato pancakes and Camembert cheese as a starter. All better with a liter or two of real German beer.
- Village VoiceAugust 15, 2014Naturally, the food is mainly Bavarian meaning giant, plate-flopping schnitzels and sausages presented in omnibus platters with tangy purple cabbage, kartoffeln, and sauerkraut. Read more
- Justin OrdovezaJanuary 20, 2017The buttered spaetzle is definitely worth getting. They have a nice selection of German beers. Great for groups.
- Elliot WehnerJanuary 4, 2015Great german food, and of course boots. In the summer great outside seating which is good for groups. Authentic German food, always get the wurst platter
- Mike M.September 30, 2014Great German food. Get the schnitzel and a side of spätzel. And of course, you can't go with das boot!
- PHUDE-nycSeptember 29, 2012Updated vibe maintains its old world charm and is putting out delicious German/Bavarian food and the perfect beers to wash 'em down with! Get the pork shank for dinner, or a currywurst for lunch! =)
- I've never had a bad time here. If it's somebody's birthday, be sure to get the "BIRTHDAY SHOT" which isn't on the menu but is the strongest grain alcohol in all of Germany. Watch their face cringe!!!
- Marinierter Herring and schnitzel a la Holstein, split between two people was PERFECT. If you do split the schnitzel, ask for an additional egg.
- IrmaZandl ZandlSlantOctober 3, 2015Gigantic portions so order way less than you think you want. My faves: herring, spätzle and rinds roulade. Avoid the sauerbraten.
- Village VoiceNovember 26, 2012Established in1939 where German was a common language. The result? Giant, plate-flopping schnitzels and sausages. Beer garden downstairs. Winner of Best of NYC Critics' choice for Best German!
- Nina LoSchiavoJuly 31, 2015Very tasty schnitzel. Warm, freshly baked soft pretzel will be the best you ever have. Atmosphere a little dank but fun/friendly.
- Dorrian's Red HandOctober 17, 2011When we're in the mood for the best German food in the whole city, we head just a few blocks over to the Heidelberg for brats, potato pancakes, pork shank, boots of lager, and to say hi to Dieter!
- No nonsense awesome food. Sausage sampler, cheesy spaetzle app and creamed spinach are all must tries! Great for beer drinkers
- Adam S.July 15, 2015Appetizers are good, but don't waste that precious stomach space. Portions are huge. You can always get Apfelstrüdel for dessert.
- Brendan LewisDecember 4, 2014Split the Schweinshaxe with a friend. No one's heart can or should handle a full order alone. And don't forget the potato pancakes!
- Paige COctober 10, 2015Delicious schnitzel! Service was a little slow but the food was very good. Come during Oktoberfest.
- Joy ChenAugust 8, 2014Obvious thing to get here is a "boot" of German beer - two liters of beer in one boot! (Just know that you'll be putting down $60 per boot for security deposit.)
- TAMMY GIAJanuary 2, 2015Had an amazing pork shank! Everything was delicious! Potato pancakes are awesome!
- Regina TeresaJuly 24, 2013The 2 Liter Das Boot is awesome! Bring $60 cash for a deposit in case your inebriated self breaks one. Potato pancakes amazing. Get the Camembert cheese app it's ridiculous!
- Thomas PajorJune 24, 2015I had the Sauerbraten. The Braten itself and the red cabbage were pretty good (the cabbage was excellent), the (single!!) Knödel that came with was pretty bland though.
- Marie La RueMarch 25, 2019Go-to stop in the neighbourhood for German fare. Large portions. Potato pancakes are a must! Yum.
- Lily MJune 25, 2010Love this bar! Great beer, same bartender every Thursday night, and if you're willing to throw down a cash deposit you can drink Spaten from a giant glass boot. One of the few real musts in the UES.
- Brian McMastersJanuary 23, 2013Had the pretzels as an appetizer. They were great but had too much salt on them. Remember to brush off the salt. Wiener Schnitzel was fantastic.
- Jason BrewSeptember 6, 2015A upper east side staple. Ce here for the giant beers and authentic German food
- Bill B.June 8, 2011Pork shank- crispy and terrifyingly proportioned, tender, delicious, falling off the freakin bone, even the acoustics are a joy. This is just good.
- New York HabitatDecember 9, 2011Great sausage platters but they're made even better with the beer options. Be wary, if you want to drink out of the 2 liter boot, it takes a $60 cash deposit.
- Guilherme FernandesNovember 23, 2013Good food, but i'm sad over here now because the owner give a hug for every with persons and jus past away of my table!!!! 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
- Becky D.March 18, 2013If you get a schnitzel, get the paprika sauce. Delicious and totally worth the extra dollar.
- Martin KimJanuary 26, 2016Food and atmosphere are👍but it's pricey. Would definitely recommend eating here
- Basically this place is perfect. Get the cheese spaetzle with bacon.
- Yani ImanDecember 9, 2012If you love Radler, this is where you can find it. Nice Motown tunes on a Saturday night.
- Andrea FiaschettiJanuary 14, 2014Get the pork shank and split it with a friend. So good but a ton of food.
- Christian DickmannSeptember 28, 2013Had the veal paprika schnitzel. Was not bad overall, Red cabbage and spaetzle were good, but the sauce (while not bad) could have been a lot better. Felt the place was overpriced for what it offered.
- Annie WernerMay 30, 2017Pints and pretzels. UES used to be a German hood, and this is the last evidence of that standing.
