Four Barrel is an unpretentious place that serves up delicious coffee and espresso drinks (as well as handful of pastries), in addition to giving you a great view of their roasting operations in back.
My very favorite coffee shop in the states after much testing. The almond milkcappuccino is perfect. The atmosphere is good for chatting, working, or thinking. The music is good, the baristas friendly.
Stop by the slow bar, especially if Bradley is there. Such a treat -- great coffee and conversation. Ask about the origins of various beans, relationships with farmers, anything coffee/tea related.
The newest Four Barrel outpost is now brewing in Portola, and this bare-bones garage kiosk sports a rusticredwood ceiling, an outdoor parklet & all the espresso goodness of the Valencia St. location. Read more
Ask for their house-made almondmacadamiamilk. You can get it in anything; I opted for a macchiato. Perfection. Love the slow bar and roasting operations on site, too!
Love the coffee but the compostable to-go lids simply DO NOT FIT & WILL LEAK. If you plan on driving away with a coffee, bring your own to-go cup or napkin the hell out of your lap.
The quality begins with Four Barrel’s commitment to sourcing beans in a sustainable, ethical manner. It comes to fruition in their cozycafes, which are sans Wi-Fi, electrical outlets and soy milk. Read more
Cappuccino was delightful and the space was unique & welcoming. No outlets or wifi, so they want you to go old school and interact with each other & not your electronics.
Some of the best coffee available in SF. Holds its own with _any_ of the other "third-wave" coffee places. Great location, especially when you're brunching on the weekend.
Easily the coolest coffee shop I’ve ever been to. A large wraparound bar with plentiful table seating bisected by bar seating in the rear portion which overlooks the roasting area. Delicious coffee.
Good atmosphere, large-ish place. They seem to care about their coffee, with multiple single origin bean options and great tasting coffee that's worth travelling for.
Yea there are hipsters go or whatever... But who cares! The coffee is fantastic, as is the whole atmosphere of the place. If you want to sit down and enjoy a fine cup of coffee, this is the place.
Their espresso based drinks are amazing. The baristas are the best, perfect pulls every time. The slow pouts are quite nice as well, just hate having to have a convo while I wait for my coffee...
All comment on coffee. I'll take a different angle. Take the one you like here. Get coffee, grab a table inside, sit down and u will find how close u r to each other. Unexpected hipsterdating spot.
ExpressoBar, bike racks, simple coffee menus, coffee roasted on sight, bar seating on the curb. What can you ask for-oh yeah they added four boar heads overhead, just because.
Hipcafe' with a parking for your fixie. The service is really good, try a slow pour coffee - I went for a Guatemala's one - and enjoy hipster-watching.
Probably the most hipstest coffee shop on Earth: plaid shirts seem mandatory, music from their big vinyl collection, make-your-own coffee stand. But I've got to say, I loved it!
Affogato was good. Ice cream (more like gelato) is nice & creamy and doesn’t melt right away to let you enjoy the espresso a bit but can do with less ice cream.
cool space, love the meticulous pour-over bar and being able to watch the roasting process in the back. from my experience though, the coffee here is solid but hardly mindblowing.
Some of the best coffee and espresso drinks in the city, hands-down! My personal favorite is a regular latte, though the mocha is fantastic. In all seriousness, you can't go wrong at Four Barrel.
Though it's located just a mile from the offices of Twitter & Zynga, Four Barrel is a decidedly unplugged coffee shop. No Wi-Fi, no outlets, & Instagramming might earn you some raised eyebrows. Read more
This is a quintessential roasters to visit if you've never been to the city, but it's so crowded and popular now that I don't get the acknowledgement from the baristas I once did.
Genuinely just a lovely coffee place. On Weekends you can order from behind the building which is faster. Not on the menu but they'll do you an iced latte if you ask
