Very Spaciousairport. Check in and security are a breeze. Bag claim on ground floor. Rental Cars are in a separate part of a terminal, and has a golf car to take you there if you can't make the walk.
James Bond arrives here from the fictitious island of "San Monique" and is picked up by one of Kananga's henchmen along with Solitaire in Live and Let Die (1973).
If more than two people, and going downtown, taxis are cheaper than the shuttles. Cabs are flat $33 each way (for 1 or 2 people or $14 pp if 3 or more). Shuttle $38 pp and need to pay in advance.
Not the greatest airport in the world, but with so much to do and see in NOLA who cares, so long as there's water to hydrate from Bourbon street. The Jazz band greeting was a cool perk =)
Newly remodeled, better to navigate through and new Shuttle Service available to New Orleans hotels and destinations for Flat Rate of $24 and $44 Roundtrip and it runs every 30min.
Top Dining Options: CaféBeignet, West Terminal; Lucky Dog, Concourses B,C; PJ's Coffee, Terminal, before security for Concourse C; Praline Connection, Concourse B; Any bar, Concourses B,C,D. Read more
Take a taxi instead of Uber if heading into the French Quarter. Taxis are a flat rate- $36 for up to 2 people. If more than 2, it’s $15 per person. Ubers we’re literally over $80 one way.
Be here early... not because of security checkpoint. It's actually been on of the smoothest operating I've been in. No, you want to make sure you've got plenty of time for drinks and Lucky Dogs
Concourse C includes a Smoothie King, Lucky Dog stand, PJ's coffee (with pizza) and a Copeland's Gourmet Kitchen (sandwiches, Cajun food), plus Atrium Loungebar.
If you have more than two people in your group, uber is likely cheaper. For 1-2 people it's only $36 to downtown but for more its $15 per person! Uber X or Uber XL cheaper.
Airport originally named Moisant Field after aviator John Moisant (died in crash 1910), later Moisant Stock Yards, hence, MSY. Renamed in 2001 to honor 100th anniversary of Armstrongs birth
If you want Dunkin Donuts it's before security in the terminal for Southwest. If you are on united or delta you have to walk to your right. More shops and food that way anyway.
This airport is small enough that if you have enough time, you can walk around without worrying about rushing. The best drinks are at BarSazerac at Concourse B.
If you're renting a car, be prepared for a HIKE to the rental car center. There is no a rental car shuttle nor tram. Closer to terminal D; much further away from terminal A/B (Southwest @ AirTran).
There's a 'tavern' on D and some cheesecake scoop place at the very end that has some pretty fresh/healthier options to couple with the bar smack in the center of the pod :)
If you're flying out of New Orleans from Concourse B, note the only real place to get a drink is Zatarain's Kitchen and there's usually a line to get in. Best to find something outside of security.
Small enough airport for quick entry and exit. Rental car building is conveniently joined a walking distance away from the terminal. TSA-pre lane is hidden with minimal signage so you might miss it.
The security lines move well and it is a busy and congested walk to the gates. A bit further than old airport but plenty of locations to work, eat, and drink.
The new airport is incredible. Checkin is on 3rd floor, security on 2nd, and baggage claim on 1st. Download the myTSA app to check security wait times.
I usually only park at the airport long term lot, but decided to try Park & Fly. Not only was it $5 per day less, coupled with an AAA discount, I saved about $30 on my entire trip. I will still park
The airport needs more food options. For example, I am a vegetarian, and I went restaurant by restaurant and could not eat anything but Nachos. Few shopping options too.
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is the gateway to one of the most exciting cities in the world – New Orleans, legendary for its history, food and good times.
