- Prince shot Purple Rain here, so it’s def. legendary. If you get the chance to see a show here, do so. The place is big enough to feel the energy, yet small enough to see the band.
- Quinn MAugust 26, 2014Love the space, it's wide enough that you can see wherever you're standing and not too deep so you're always pretty close to the stage. Large bathrooms too.
- Great sight lines, even when it's packed. I like to stand stage right by the coat check if I want to hear the music but don't really care to watch the band.
- Voted Best Dance Club by City Pages in 2012! If thinking about all of their different dance nights doesn't wear you out, congratulations; your clubbing years are not over yet.
- Voted Best Dance Club by City Pages in 2010. In 2010 First Ave housed the most successful dance nights in the city. Among them: Get Cryphy, Too Much Love, Ritmo Caliente, Hot Dish, Black, and more.
- Best place for birthdays! Secret Deal: you +1 get into any show, even if it's sold out, plus a free bottle of champagne!
- The quintessential Twin Cities rock club. A true classic. Voted Best Concert Venue by City Pages Best of 2014!
- The headliner usually goes on around 10 p.m. Get there well before that for sold out shows for a good spot though.
- See the bartender at the upstairs front bar (by the windows) with the white shirt and rolled up sleeves. Best bartender in the cities!!! He's amazing and reads minds. Or just KNOWS
- Absolutely love this venue! Chill spot, great bar access, awesome shows, fun times!
- Emily DyessMarch 13, 2012If you are a short woman, this place is huge and tall people seem to be abundant. You will be standing for a while unless you grab a table, but if you want to see wear tall boots or heels.
- Michael HahnOctober 7, 2014By far one of my favorite music venues, very good atmosphere and friendly staff.
- Sarah MuellerApril 21, 2017Great venue for live music but it still kind of sucks that I can't take my drink to the bathroom with me.
- HISTORYMay 21, 2010This venue was once the Greyhound bus station, and it's alleged that ghosts of travelers and homeless people who died at the bus station now haunt First Avenue.
- TeeshaBozzlady MilesFebruary 7, 2015You can see the view of the club that played in, in the movie purple rain. I love that view...
- Michael HahnJune 8, 2013By far one of my favorite venues, seen some awesome band here and even met some great people too.
- Maxine McGeeSeptember 17, 2021The spot, the talent. I hope the Silver Sun Pickups will come back they were gonna have a show March 2020.
- Keep an eye out for Prince, who lives in a secret network of tunnels located deep beneath the stage.
- The Wall Street JournalAugust 3, 2014The club's main room features national acts; the smaller 7th St. Entry hosts up-and-comers. Read more
- Scott SmithNovember 19, 2010Go see a national or local band at the historical First Avenue Mainroom or the 7th Street Entry next door, and enjoy 40 years of First Avenue history.
- Voted Best Dance Club by City Pages in 2011! From hip hop to techno, First Avenue has always been a dancing mainstay
- Try the Diamond Dog. It's a hot dog wrapped in bacon, AND it's named after a Bowie record!
- If you can't see the stage check out the tv monitors, the VJ's do an excellent job.
- Hanging out by the window on the second floor is kind of awesome.
- Lindsey AJanuary 9, 2011To the under age ladies: please wear more clothes...we don't need to see everything you have to offer.

- "Make sure to take a look at all the amazing poster on the walls."
- It's not a good idea to try to smoke weed in here. Security is on point and they will kick your ass out!! ...unless you are real sneaky about it
- Catch a show from right behind the sound board. Enjoy the great view, the superb mix and easy access to the back bar.
- CJ S.May 31, 2013If you have an Illinois license, bring a second form of ID with your birthdate on it. Otherwise they'll try to say it's fake and won't let you in.
- Beware of Chloe the bigred bulldog who frequents TML, she'll eat your face and ask for seconds because she's so sad and lonely.
- Work your way to stage left to get an awesome view and access to the food and bar there
