The Rex is the best new restaurant I've tried in 2014. Savory lunch menu featuring house-smoked meats. Friendly service, craft beer & well-chosen wines by the glass. Eat in or take-away.
Whalesbone's remix of thel retail/brown bag lunch place on Kent. Fish & Chips are front and centre here -- and they're excellent -- but for pure fresh flavour try their amazing smoked fish sandwiches.
People rave about the pastries but the fresh-cooked pork souvlaki gyro was the best I've had in Ottawa; puts Greek on Wheels in the shade. Not licensed.
If they can smoke it, they will serve it. Pulled pork a totally different experience from BBQ sauce muck you get in the chain restaurants. Quality at a great price point. Arrive early; they sell out.
