The bar downstairs is fun but the best views and people-watching is from the upstairs bar. Afternoons see the wave-runners & boats of Crab Island partiers coming & going. Sunset is always good too.
It's not in Destin but just a short drive west on 98 to the foot of the Brooks Bridge. People who moved away never come back without visiting the Hightide. You'll see some real characters here.
Heading west, turn right on Calhoun just past McGuires. Then left just after the Destin Marina. The sandwiches are great & a little pricey. Watching the tourists is priceless.
Don't want strangers sitting within 100 yards of you on the beach? Select areas between Ramada Inn and the Destin Bridge are where you want to be. Look for small car parks... you're there.
Pool tables, no-nonsense bartenders, smoking outside. It's where the hardcore locals go.
