One of the top burgers in DC here called, appropriately, the Proper Burger: two patties topped with Gouda, charred red onion, sweet chili sauce, dill pickles, rocket & garlic aioli on a brioche bun.
Lunch? Get there early and sit upstairs. What a gorgeous spot and you might get lucky and have an incredibly attentive server/bartender all to yourself for a while. Savor over the hummus and lunch ...
The Proper Burger. Much has been written. Not enough has been said. Remember how your first ShackBurger made you feel? This is that, only better. More intense, more honest, and way more flavorful.
Can’t recommend it enough! Got the Truffle Mac&Cheese, Proper Burger, and Caribbean Queen, and all were fantastic. Be sure to talk to a staff member to get in the waitlist for a table, or come early.
The prosperity burger is the way to go- every table had at least one during our visit. $5 cocktailsbeer and wine during happy hour 12-7. Service could be friendlier
The Wagyu was really good, I had high expectations and was not disappointed. Staff was super friendly also. For any burger fan in DC, this is a must place to go.
The happy hour is amazing and so is the food. Start your night out with a whiskey & soda, Skull Splitter beer, and literally ANY sandwich. You won't be disappointed!
Can sometimes be a bit difficult to get attention at the bar (if you're lucky enough to get a seat), but the food is worth it. CheeseToasty and Pumpkin Curry are out of this world.
This is a neighborhood shop dedicated to scratch cooking. It draws inspiration from East London, but the sandwiches are just as much influenced by Argentine or Vietnamese street vendors. Read more
Great happy hour! $5 glasses of presecco? I'm happy. The photos on here don't do this place justice. Such a great spot tucked away with great ambience.
Massive portions so come hungry and skip the sides/apps. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu but "cheesy toasts" aka grilled cheese w truffle oil or the roti are my faves
My skepticism dwindled with every delectable bite I took into the Proper Burger. The flavor is the savory equivalent of a starburst, exploding with flavor with every chew.
The brick Lane salt-beef sarnie has beef brined for two weeks in a bath of brown sugar and 20 spices; simmered for hours and stacked on rye with house-made pickles and mustard. Read more
The cheesetoasties are tremendously decadent and come in a satisfying portion.. The truffle oil take them over the top in deliciousness. Perfect for vegetarians.
Best Burger and Mac and cheese I've had in DC. Someone needs to tell them to get a host tho. People walk in and walk out because they have no idea what to do/where to order.
So here's the thing about Dukes: the food is good but the bread always ruins it. I don't know why but whether it's burgers or hummus or banh mi, the bread is just off. Otherwise drinks are good.
