During my four years at Pratt, I was first disappointed that the only fast food place nearby was White Castle (gross) but soon learned that was a blessing. Here were some of my favorite places
Chris Cookson: This was a staple of my all-nighters at Pratt because it opens really early, 5 a.m. and has cheap food and large portions. My favorites here are the Chicken Fingers Deluxe and Corned Beef Hash.
232 Vanderbilt Ave (btwn Dekalb & Willoughby), Brooklyn, NY
Pizzeria · Clinton Hill · 95 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: Thin crust, more of a traditional Italian style pie like you'd find at Lombardi's or Grimaldi's. Tried the Arugula Pie as per Food Network's Ted Allen's suggestion, it was good but sausage is the best
273 Grand Ave (btw Lafayette Ave & Clifton Pl), Brooklyn, NY
Pizzeria · Clinton Hill · 22 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: I'd go here with my roommates every thursday and order a Buffalo Chicken Pie which they make really well here, a lot of buffalo sauce and drizzled on dressing. Their Penne Alla Vodka Pasta's great too
Chris Cookson: I believe this place is closing down pretty soon but if you have the chance, this is a fun place that is open fairly late for Myrtle Avenue with a gleefully sarcastic Korean sandwichmaker at night.
Chris Cookson: Expect to wait maybe fifteen minutes, but worth it, the BLT is a must, along with their chicken paninis. Place is small and crowded, so don't expect to be able to eat in. Expensive but worth it.
Chinese Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 6 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: While Kum Kau is better if you want a specific entree, New Grace is an excellent place to go with friends for lunch for their affordable buffet style entrees. Good variety and large portions for $5
386 Flatbush Avenue Ext (at DeKalb Ave), Brooklyn, NY
Diner · Downtown Brooklyn · 362 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: if you are a college student in the area, it's a PERFECT place to go before getting dropped off by parents. Otherwise, make sure to go there during Brooklyn Restaurant Week for a massive feast for $25
Chris Cookson: Not as good and more expensive than John's Coffee Shop but has a lot more of a New York atmosphere with signed images of news anchors and foreign currency on the wall. Owner is really talkative too
Thai Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 25 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: This was a favorite place of one of my Thai friends. Always order the Thai Iced Tea and the Banana Sundae is a lot of fun. Definitely better than Thai 101 and they do take-out too which is great.
463 Myrtle Ave (btwn Washington Ave & Hall St), Brooklyn, NY
Chinese Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 78 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: Portions here are giant, the place often has beggars by the door but food's good. Don't bother with the restaurant portion, prices are way higher there with same take-out food. Make sure to call ahead
Fish and Chips Shop · Central Slope · 90 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: a bit of a walk if you're a Pratt Student but worth it. Fish n' Chips and Shepard's Pies are easy recommendations and deep fried pizza is interesting. Food goes half price on special during Happy Hour
Mexican Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 21 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: Much more of a hole in the wall place compared to Castro's but offers a lot of really high quality take-out style food. They win the battle of tacos and the nachos are a great, filling order as well.
511 Myrtle Ave (btwn Grand & Ryerson), Brooklyn, NY
Mexican Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 44 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: Good place for take-out, or an affordable hour or two to hang out with friends. I was a big fan of their burritos and quesadillas here but everything is pretty good. Outdoor dining's great in Spring.
Sushi Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 18 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: My friends really liked the sushi here, my biggest recommendation would be the crunchy dragon roll. Otherwise, come early for their Lunch Box Special if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for food
Chris Cookson: a great place to pair with a trip to the Botanical Gardens or Brooklyn Museum. Line is large on a Saturday, if you can, go on a week day. Pancakes and grits are the highlight here but lots to choose.
Chris Cookson: Likely to be one of the first places you go to at Pratt. It's really good until you go to their sister location, The 3 Luigi's which is located a few blocks away. Still great and fast, a bit oily.
Chris Cookson: Lacks the charm of Andy's Restaurant that used to be in it's place but a perfectly adequate place on its own right. Burgers are the highlight here, dishes like the Goulash are pretty bland.
395 Flatbush Ave. Extension (Dekalb Ave), Brooklyn, NY
American Restaurant · Downtown Brooklyn · 36 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: For most intents and purposes, if you are looking for something special, go across the street to Junior's, otherwise this is still a fun place to go with friends. Order the 2,000 calorie cookie desert
Southern Food Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 5 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: Be prepared to wait a really long time for a microwaved, but otherwise really delicious Turkey sandwich. Ordering delivery here is a mess but their full Turkeys are delicious, albeit a bit expensive.
Donut Shop · Bedford-Stuyvesant · 376 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: This was added right when I was almost done with Pratt but has a small but delectable variety of doughnuts. The Blood Orange one was a favorite alongside the coconut one. Also try the Nutella donuts
College Cafeteria · Clinton Hill · 4 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: Expensive, but if you are forced on a meal plan the fish n' chips and pulled pork sandwich from their fried area are pretty good. Hot Dogs are rare but avoid them at all costs, they get oddly soggy.
Chris Cookson: The personal pizza is the best deal you can get with your meal plan, it's really fresh and a great portion. Also try the Chicken Caesar personal pie, lettuce is crunchy, excellent change of pace
Chris Cookson: Great selection of cream cheeses and variety of bagels, I liked the blueberry cream cheese and cinnamon raisin bagels the best. Try ordering a burger or egg sandwich here, have bagel halves for bread.
Spanish Restaurant · Clinton Hill · 6 tips and reviews
Chris Cookson: Great chicken and affordable meals, not a great place to go out of your way for but if you like beans and rice and live on campus at Pratt Institute, a solid outing. TV always has spanish game shows.
