It was built by Cosimo I between 1560 and 1564 for defence, (with big walls and towers) with abundance of the use of marble thanks to the near caves. Today, it hosts special exhibitions and a museum.
Built by the Pazzi family, it became property of the Medici family after the Pazzi conjure. The tower offers a magnificent view, and the italian-style garden surrounds the castle.
In the XV century, the villa, with its famous garden, was considered the Medici favorite residence. It became headquarters of the Platonic Academy. Since 1936, the villa is property of the Hospital.
Also known as "Villa Artimino" or “Villa of hundred chimneys”, this was the hunting lodge and the favorite place of Grand Duke Ferdinando that commissioned it to the architect Buontalenti.
