Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross, lived here and this building was their first headquarters. In 1974 this place was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Clara Barton dedicated her life to help others. Glen Echo was her home the last 15 years of her life & the structure illustrates her dedication & concern for others. Tours of the house are free & offered on the hour every day of the week from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (last tour at 4:00 pm).
