This is a great place to have lunch or a date. Chivitos (Uruguayan-style sandwich) are the bomb diggity. The el canadiense is a blend of flavors savory and sour. For apps definitely get the croquetas.

    Been here 5+ times
Must try El Cheto Chivito sandwich. Veggie, with portobello mushroom! Delicious! Also the vegetarian croquettes! Both a must have! Oh and the chocolate mousse dessert! Can't wait to be back!

Charrua serves Uruguayan food. They take pride in their Uruguayan culture as they have Uruguayan wine & beer. Best known for their chivitos. Filet mignon was tender & the bread was soft & fluffy.

The interior is really cute. On beautiful days, they open up their huge window & guests are allowed to sit at the bench right by it (like I did!). They have a bunch of throw pillows there too.

Happy hour is 2-for-1 sangria & need. Sangria Blanca & Sangria Roja are both amazing (I like sangria on the sweeter side). They taste like juice & go down like water so be careful!

Highly recommend the el canadiense chivtos, a filet mignon sandwich topped with bacon, cheese, egg, caramelized onion, roasted red pepper, olives, lettuce, tomato, mayo with a side of fries.

New + apparently the 1st Uruguayan resturant in Manhattan. The appetizer + main course (el bolija) were flavorful. Bonus: Nice atmosphere (especially at night + a very friendly staff. BYOB for now.

Really Good and Authentic Uruguayan food. Even better than what you'll get in most places in Uruguay.

The signature dish is the hanger steak with chimichurri sauce. Medium rare is the way to go. The accompanying fries have the right amount of crispiness to them.

I expected their sample platter or picada charrúa to be a bigger portion than what was served. It consisted of chicken cutlet, skirt steak, corn empanada, tuna empanada, chorizo & chimichurri sauce.

Great service and kind staff. The chipirones were delicious, and the chivito canadiense is just like in Uruguay. The place is really nice.

Their signature sandwich is good and apparently true to tradition, but doesn't bring anything exciting to the table and is a bit pricey at $13. Nice sidewalk facing seating.

Try a glass of the Grappamiel (honey grappa). It's not on the menu but they have it in the bar. Delicious.

Terrible. Took our order & came by 45 minutes later (even tho there were 2 other customers) to tell us they didn’t have what we ordered (a salad and calamari). At that point we were starving and left.
