Home to the movie 'The Bridges of Madison County" and the birthplace of John Wayne, Winterset is also the most charming small Iowa town you'll ever see.
Susan Hurst: This is the place to stay, but make your reservation soon. A completely charming B&B in a former church. Only a couple of blocks from the Madison County courthouse square. Steve and Nancy are great!
Susan Hurst: The food is very fresh and good, and at a great price. This is the place to go when you're hungry at lunch time. Really nice, large salads! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Open Wed-Sat

Susan Hurst: A unique shopping experience in an old jail--it really IS an old jail. Lovely patio, and you can get a bottle of wine or a soda and a snack to enjoy there. Nice place to sit and relax.
Susan Hurst: Open from May through October, this is a remarkably nice museum for a small town. My favorites are the Bevington Mansion and the restored train depot.
Susan Hurst: One of the most popular shopping destinations in Winterset. Tasteful country/traditional home decor and accessories, gifts, packaged gourmet foods, and more.
