The otters enjoy putting on a playful show to delight visitors of all ages. Be sure to also stop and see the sea turtles, including Nimbus, a unique little loggerhead named for his golden coloring.
Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge exhibit opened here in June 2011. Sail through the museum's collection of lore and artifacts raised from the Beaufort Inlet, where the ship ran aground in 1718.
Take a ride with Captain El across the water to Cape Lookout Lighthouse or Shackleford Banks. Keep your camera handy. You just might spot dolphins, sea turtles or wild horses along the way!
The lighthouse is open for climbing mid-May through mid-September. Take your time climbing its 207 steps and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view from the top!
Stand at the spot of the Wrights' first 4 flights, which took place Dec. 17, 1903. The first flight was just 40 yards and took 12 seconds, a time easily beat by a child or adult's easy jog. Try it!
Come here to fish, surf, shop for souvenirs or just enjoy the waves and sun. The pier also offers fishing, science and education classes for little anglers as well as kids 12 and up.
So, just how much sand will you find here? About 30 million tons - enough to fill 6 million dump trucks! Enjoy your trek to the top. The view is a pretty amazing reward.
