Start with a miso soup shot and don't sleep on the chicken wings, spicy tuna, or the best of all: rice cakes with kimchee, pork, and mozzarella (think Asian Mac n cheese). All bowls are great, too.
the ramen is perfect! 🍜 loved the pork bone option with chicken. don't miss the sake cocktails either - unfiltered sake plus sanpeligrino flavor of your choice (orange & grapefruit pictured).
Bar Chuko serves some of the smartest and most delicious food in the city! You won’t find a better Okonomiyaki in the city. And the Rice Cakes are one of the best things we ate in 2014.
Must eats: Clams with Japanese donuts, okonomiyaki, the okra on the pickle plate, lamb skewers...will be back for all the rest!! Skip: The ramen - their bowls across the street are all superior.
Outstanding food and service! We had the combination skewers, the pickled mackerel, chicken ramen, quail, surf clam tartare and okonomiyaki. It was all delicious! Outstanding service.
Grilled asparagus, hamachi collar, pork chop, okonomiyaka and all the meat skewers are in general great. The wings are ridiculous. Haven't tried the bowls. I like the rice cakes though, but very rich.
Everything is great, from the small bites to the larger plates. The ramen is different from the ones at Chuko but still delicious. Nice selection of Japanese spirits.
Serving delicious small tapas style plates of Japanese persuasion, you can indulge in some small bites packed full of flavor paired with a refreshing, delicious cocktail. Read more
Start with the wings (skate wings are good too), some yaki tori, then finish with a nice hearty tuna tartare or lamb bowl. If there are any daily specials or yaki tori, you should get those.
The Wings here are truly delicious! Nice and crispy with a soy, garlic, chili sauce that is the perfect balance between savory & sweet with a slight heat.
Now having eaten here many times, I have a "notes" list of faves on my phone - here goes: Spicy tunaWaygu skewerLamb meatballChicken gingerBroccoli RabeRice ballBacon Mochi and Cabbage
Everything is delicious! Handful of options for veggies/vegans. If you have a budget, definitely keep that in mind as you can easily rack up a $100 tab just on skewers!
Small plates, but the food is good. Grilled artichokes were amazing. The grilled rice ball with miso butter was great as well. Ramen was not as good as Chuko.
Lots of interesting choices but the results are hit or miss. Wings? Excellent. Sweetbreads? Bland. Some skewers are better (wagyu, thighs, liver) than others (breast, jowl, eggplant).
BAR CHUKO, located just across the street from the original Chuko Ramen, is an izakaya— traditionally denoting a Japanese after-work eating and drinking establishment. Plates are tapas style, small and diverse, served with drinks and cocktails available from a full bar.
