I was very impressed with this museum. David Hawley, one of the original diggers of the Steamboat Arabia, was even there to answer questions during my visit.
I admire the dedication of this family to this project, they've retrieved an amazing collection of objects which are so beautifully displayed in this museum!
This place is located under the City Market and is a great museum!! When their restoration team is working in the lab they have pretty cool samples/demos and are very friendly!
it has been 15+ years since I have been here. Definitely visit if you have not attended for a while. The walking tour, which I did not recall from the past, and the displays are top-rate.
Don’t overlook this place! One of the best looks at 1856 Americana you’ll find anywhere. Not even the Smithsonian comes close to what’s on display here.
The Steamboat Arabia Museum is located in City Market. For family dining near the museum, try Cascone's, Winslow's Bar-B-Q, or Bo Ling's. Stop by Planter's to buy great spices, mixes, and candy!
Don't let tackygift shop & food court put you off. it's worth every nickel of admission. Tour guide was superb and take time to listen to the preservation specialist. Fascinating!!!!
Founders of the Steamboat Arabia Museum used Army Corps of Engineer records to locate the sunken ship. You can search the Corps records, too to find your buried treasure! Read more
