This area is mainly populated by office buildings and shopping, but if you know where to look, there are some interesting spots to hang out.
1. Founding Farmers
Alicia Dixon: There is often a long wait. Best to have reservations.
2. Ben's Chilli
Alicia Dixon: Worth the trip into DC from McLean. This spot is a DC legend.
3. Busboys and Poets
Alicia Dixon: Home cooking with spoken word jams.
4. Republik Coffee Bar
Alicia Dixon: Located in the lower level of the Highgate Apartments across the street from the Hilton McLean.
5. Bourbon Coffee
Alicia Dixon: Coffee place but they have good sandwiches. So good lunch option for a bite between meetings in the Tyson's area.
6. Tysons Corner Center
Alicia Dixon: Best shopping in Northern VA. Large regional shopping mall right by metro stop. Has an outdoor urban park with activities, e.g. winter they do a ice skating rink.
7. Tysons Galleria
Alicia Dixon: High-end shopping in the with Neiman Marcus & Saks Fifth Avenue. About a half mile walk for metro stop.
8. Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center
Alicia Dixon: A bit of a hike away from McLean, but this place has all of the airplane stuff that they couldn't fit into a downtown museum.
9. Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts (Filene Center)
Alicia Dixon: Catch a show here on a summer day. They have a summer concert series where you can picnic.
10. Angelika Film Center at Mosaic
Alicia Dixon: This is the place to catch an independent film. Get there early though because parking is always congested.
11. Mosaic Central Farm Market
Alicia Dixon: Fresh produce, with music and other activities to pass the time while you browse.
12. Great Falls Park
Alicia Dixon: Beautiful views overlooking the Potomac River. Be sure to visit from the Virginia side.
13. George Washington's Mount Vernon
Alicia Dixon: Off the beaten path, so plan a full day for this excursion. Make sure to take a guided tour.
14. Historic Blenheim
Alicia Dixon: History buffs will enjoy this tour with the wall graffiti from the soldiers.
15. The Social
Alicia Dixon: Hilton's corporate cafe & coffee bar that is open to the public. Fast & inexpensive food.
16. Gannett
Alicia Dixon: There is a great walking trail here that goes around the US News building. Nice place to get in some quick nature during lunch.
17. Mom & Pop
Alicia Dixon: Grab a gourmet coffee before you go to the movies at the Angelika Film Center at Mosaic.
18. Post Coffee Bar
Alicia Dixon: Coffee shop located along the walk from the metro to Tyson's Corner Center mall.
19. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Alicia Dixon: National traveling theater shows play here. Worth the drive into the city.
20. The Alden Theatre
Alicia Dixon: Local theatre inside the McLean Community Center. Event information is at https://mcleancenter.org/alden-theatre
21. 1st Stage Theater
Alicia Dixon: Began as a grassroots theatre company but has achieved national acclaim. http://www.1ststagetysons.org/
